Dr Lyndall Strazdins

We’d like to introduce our newest team member, Dr Lyndall Strazdins. Lyndall is returning to full registration to combine her considerable research and clinical expertise, and will be practicing as an intern psychologist for 2010. She has a Doctorate in Psychology (2001) and a Clinical Psychology Masters degree (1994), and she is an internationally recognized research expert on the mental health of adults and children, work stresses, and family pressures linked to working and parenting.

Before her academic career, Lyndall worked for ten years as a psychologist specializing in child and family relationship difficulties, post natal depression, parenting and family stresses, trauma and pain management. During her clinical practice she worked in Community Mental Health and Family Care and Support services and in private practice. Her experience spans a wide range of adult and child psychological treatment and assessment needs, including treatment of depression, anxiety (generalised and specific problems) trauma-related problems including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), work stress and work performance problems, and chronic pain. Her special interest and expertise in child difficulties and family relationship problems inspired her to research the new pressures on parents, family life and children’s wellbeing and to investigate the links between work stress and mental health. She has been an expert advisor and reviewer for several recent Government enquiries, including the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission, the Raising Children Network and the Family Study Program, Department of Veteran Affairs.

Throughout her career, Lyndall’s aim has been to help people and families better understand and manage the stresses and problems they may have, and live closer to their values and goals. She uses a range of approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic and trauma desensitization, and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Academy of Management.
