What is Counselling?

Professional counselling is a safe and confidential collaboration between a qualified counsellor and client to promote mental health and wellbeing, enhance self-understanding, and resolve identified concerns.

Counselling is a process of talking about and working through your personal problems. The counsellor will help you to clarify the issues of concern, increase self-awareness and understanding, and explore options for personal growth. For some people just the process of telling their story to a counsellor and being listened to is helpful. For others, being guided through therapeutic processes for change brings about valuable progress. At every stage clients are active participants in the counselling process.

Common reasons people seek counselling.

Anyone who is struggling with a personal concern can seek counselling. Some common issues that people seek counselling for include:

  • work, study and career issues
  • stress, anxiety and depression
  • life transitions
  • self esteem and self-confidence difficulties
  • communication and relationship issues
  • grief and loss

Counselling aims to help you address issues that cause emotional pain or prevent you from functioning well in your life. The counsellor is there to unconditionally and non-judgementally support you. They are also there to guide you to develop insight and achieve personal growth so you can live your life with more vitality and purpose.
